I’ve always been a fan of sea travel. There’s something about the open water that’s liberating. So when I discovered the direct ferries from Mallorca to Barcelona, it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

The journey is not just a means to an end, it’s an adventure in itself. As the ferry departs from the beautiful island of Mallorca, you’re treated to stunning views that can only be appreciated from the sea.

Travelling by ferry also offers a unique perspective of Barcelona. As you approach the city, you’ll be captivated by the stunning skyline and the iconic landmarks. It’s a sight that’ll stay with you long after your journey ends.

Benefits of Sea Travel

Sea travel offers unparalleled, heart-stirring views and a rewarding, immersive journey that it’s hard to match. As an avid sea traveller, I’d say it’s more than mere transport; it’s an extraordinary adventure that comes with a slew of advantages.

First and foremost, the pace of sea travel fosters a sense of relaxation. There’s something indescribably soothing about the gentle undulation of waves and the rhythmic creaking of the ship. You’re swept into an unhurried rhythm – far removed from the urgency of our daily grind.

Equally important is the opportunity to connect with nature. A ferry trip brings you face-to-face with aquatic wildlife in its natural environment. Dolphins leaping in the sea spray, birds soaring in the azure sky, or perhaps a breathtaking cresting whale – encounters that you’ll remember for a lifetime.

On a practical note, sea travel – especially with the direct ferries from Mallorca to Barcelona – offers the most scenic route. As the ferry meanders across the blue expanse, it offers stunning views of Mallorca’s coastline gradually shrinking behind you and, in time, the towering silhouette of Barcelona’s skyline appearing on the horizon.

Finally, let’s talk convenience. Travelling by ferry means you can bring along your car or bicycle. No need for stressful public transport connections on either side. It’s as easy as “drive on, drive off”.

Whether you view it as a grand adventure or a time for personal reflection, a voyage at sea has a charisma all its own. I’d recommend sea travel to anyone looking for a greener, more relaxed and surprisingly affordable way to travel.

Remember, next time you’re planning a trip from Mallorca to Barcelona, don’t just travel – embark on an unforgettable sea journey.

Direct Ferries from Mallorca to Barcelona

I can’t emphasise enough the convenience offered by direct ferries from Mallorca to Barcelona. You’re in for a smooth ride across the Mediterranean, gliding effortlessly on the calm azure waters. These ferries provide a host of onboard amenities to ensure you’re comfortable and entertained throughout your voyage.

  • Onboard Amenities

These ferries come equipped with all the facilities you’d need for an unforgettable sea voyage. There’s a range of restaurants and cafes for you to sample exquisite cuisine, bars where you can enjoy a refreshing drink, and a cinema to keep you entertained. Ensuring your comfort, they also provide cosy cabins where you can rest and sleep on overnight journeys.

  • Accessibility

What could be more comfortable than travelling door-to-door with your own car? Travelling in your personal vehicle allows you to set your own pace, loading and unloading at your leisure. Direct ferries provide seamless car ferrying services, saving you the hassle of car hire or using public transport in Barcelona.

  • Travel Time

You might be wondering about the time it takes. A direct navigation between Mallorca and Barcelona is typically a 7-hour journey, certainly longer than flying. However, bear in mind the unique experiences and comfort that sea travel offers. It’s a voyage of pure relaxation where every moment is a treat for the senses.

Moreover, the cost-effectiveness of these ferries is another point worth noting. Consider the fact you won’t have to splash out on expensive airport transfers or car rentals in Barcelona. As an early bird, you could snag yourself some great deals and discounts. Overall, you’ll find that the overall costs match, if not beat, the cost of flying.

Scenic Views from the Ferry

One of the major attractions of a direct ferry from Mallorca to Barcelona is, without question, the spectacular scenic views. Being out at sea creates a unique perspective on the grandeur of the Mediterranean, quite unlike anything else.

Imagine being engulfed in nature’s beauty, the azure sea below and the expansive blue sky above me. The endless horizon separated only by the faint tinge of colour at sunrise or sunset. There’s something truly mesmerising about tasting the salty sea breeze on my lips while I watch the golden sun plunge into the ocean.

That’s a kind of experience that no airplane will offer you. As we depart from Mallorca’s bustling port, I wave back to the retreating picturesque landscapes, historic bell towers, and the mighty Tramuntana mountains. I had the best time on Mallorca in the city of Cala Millor, thanks to the tipps I found online on Cala Millor Guru. The journey on the ferry seems to slow down time, allowing us to take in Mallorca’s beauty in a way not possible from the confines of an aeroplane.

In the middle of our voyage across the Mediterranean, we often cross paths with colourful boats or vast cargo ships, adding strokes of life to the expansive canvas of the sea. Sometimes, if we’re truly lucky, we might catch sight of a playful school of dolphins racing alongside the ferry.

As we approach Barcelona, the ferry offers a breathtaking view of the city’s skyline from the sea. The distinctive shapes of Antoni Gaudi’s architectural masterpieces, like the Sagrada Familia and Park Güell, or the sprawling sandy beaches of Barceloneta, beckoning us as we advance towards our destination. It’s like watching the city come to life as we get closer.

Travelling on a direct ferry from Mallorca to Barcelona is not just about reaching the destination. It’s about enjoying the journey, relishing the scenic views, and making memories. And that’s the kind of experience I personally seek, where every moment of the voyage becomes a destination in itself.

Arrival in Barcelona

As the ferry nears the Catalonian capital, all aboard are greeted by Barcelona’s iconic skyline. The cityscape stands tall, signaling the end of our peaceful voyage across the Mediterranean, and the beginning of another adventure. A sight that’s worth a thousand pictures, but none truly do it justice – at least not like seeing it firsthand.

Literally making waves, Barcelona presents itself with a mix of both historical and contemporary architectural designs. The Sagrada Familia looms in the distance – Antoní Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece, an awe-inspiring sight that’s served as the city’s pinnacle of tourist attraction. Basking in the glory of the Catalonia sun, this breathtaking sight stands tall amidst Barcelona’s skyline, radiating brilliance in every beam of light it catches.

The Port of Barcelona straight ahead, it’s known as one of Europe’s busiest ports – both commercially and for tourism. The port is abuzz with activity: cargo ships shifting their load, cruise liners packed with tourists, local fishermen sorting their catch, and speedboats leaving trails of frothy foam in their wake. The energy is palpable, a testament to the city’s vibrant spirit and bustling life.

While on the ferry, it’s an ideal opportunity to get an overview of Montjuïc – Barcelona’s historic hill. Framing the western edge of the city centre, it’s filled with numerous attractions like the Montjuïc castle, the Magic Fountain, and many more. You’ll find you’re already building a mental map, planning trips to these must-visit sites in the coming days.

Approaching the dock, you’ll realise this is a view very few have the privilege of experiencing. However, nothing truly prepares one for the feeling of finally stepping foot in the city – knowing all that lays ahead in discovery. The excitement permeates the air, a heady mix of anticipation and curiosity, creating moments to cherish for a lifetime.

Remember, Barcelona is not just a place on the map. It’s a story to be lived, memories to be created, and adventures to be embarked upon.

Let’s take it all in and get ready for the grand exploration of Barcelona.

Conclusion

So there you have it. Taking a direct ferry from Mallorca to Barcelona isn’t just about getting from point A to point B. It’s an experience in itself, a journey that sets the stage for the adventure that awaits in Barcelona.

As the city’s skyline comes into view, the anticipation builds. You’re not just arriving at a destination, you’re stepping into a story that’s waiting to unfold. Whether it’s your first time or you’re returning for another visit, Barcelona never fails to captivate.

Each trip, each journey, is a chance to make new memories and embark on new adventures. So why wait? Hop on a ferry and let Barcelona’s story become part of yours.

The ship’s navigation system is a set of devices and software that help the ship navigate in space and determine its position. It includes various sensors such as GPS, GLONASS, LAG (Laser Log), LAB (Laser Altibatometer), Echo Sounder, Sonar, etc., as well as data processing and analysis software. The ship’s navigation system allows the captain and crew of the ship to accurately determine their position, speed, heading and depth. This is especially important when navigating in difficult conditions such as fog, storms or other obstacles at sea. Navigation systems by type are divided into:

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite navigation system that allows ships to determine their position and heading with high accuracy. GPS is used in many countries around the world and is one of the most common navigation systems on ships.

The Laser Positioning System (LPS) is a system based on the use of laser beams to determine the position of a ship. It is used on large ships and can be more accurate than GPS.

Radar system (RADAR) is a radar navigation system that uses radio waves to determine the distance to objects at sea. RADAR can be used to determine the speed and direction of a ship, as well as to detect other ships and obstacles at sea.

A hydroacoustic system (SAS) is a navigation system based on the use of sound waves that bounce off the seabed and other objects. SAS can be used to measure the depth of the sea, determine the direction of movement and detect other objects on the seabed.

Garmin Navigation Devices and Apps

Garmin is a company that manufactures various navigation devices and systems, including GPS navigators, echo sounders, radars, action cameras and other devices for various activities. Here are some of the popular navigation systems and apps from Garmin:

Garmin ECHOMAP ULTRA. This is a powerful fish finder with a large screen and a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. It has many features for fishermen and sea fishing enthusiasts, including map display, track and waypoint recording, and wireless sensor support.

One of the main features of ECHOMAP ULTRA is its support for CHIRP technology, which allows you to more accurately determine the depth and structure of the bottom. It also has the ability to record videos and photos, which can be useful for capturing interesting moments while fishing or while traveling.

Garmin RIVET. Garmin RIVET is a mobile app designed to track your location and record routes on a map. The application is available for Android and iOS platforms and can be used on smartphones or tablets.

With Garmin RIVET, you can create routes, add waypoints, and save tracks. The app also supports a GPS tracking feature that allows you to track your location in real time.

In addition, the Garmin RIVET has the ability to connect to a Garmin GPS system for more accurate location information.

Garmin GPSMAP 585 Plus. The Garmin GPSMAP 585 Plus is one of the most popular and reliable marine GPS systems due to its high accuracy, large screen and many features. This system features a bright and clear 5″ screen with a resolution of 240 x 160 pixels, making it ideal for use on open decks.

In addition, the Garmin GPSMAP 585 Plus has many advanced features such as a built-in compass and barometer, making it ideal for navigating the sea. Also, this system has the ability to connect to the Internet, which allows you to receive up-to-date information about the weather and maps.

The Garmin GPSMAP 585 Plus does not support as many file formats as we would like. In some cases, one has to resort to using an online file converter such as MiConv. For example, to convert KML files. Overall, though, the Garmin GPSMAP 585 Plus is an excellent marine navigation system and one of the best options on the market.

Garmin MARINA is software designed to control boat systems. It allows you to track the location of the vessel, set up routes, control the radio station and navigation lights.

Garmin MARINA software is available for Android and iOS devices. It has a simple and intuitive interface that allows you to quickly configure all the necessary settings.

GARMIN MARINA also allows you to create routes using the GPS system, making navigation on the water more accurate and convenient. In addition, the software supports an Internet connection, which makes it possible to receive up-to-date information on weather conditions and other important data.

In addition to Garmin, we also recommend paying attention to the products of such companies as Lowrance, Raymarine, Simrad, Furuno, Furunadu. These companies also produce quality navigation systems and equipment.

A cargo transportation or trucking company is a business that can grow big in the course of time. So, starting it under the umbrella of an independent legal entity is a much safe path. For this reason, many entrepreneurs-to-be choose between a limited liability company and an S-Corporation structure for their logistics venture. If it sounds like you, our quick overview will reveal this issue for you.

LLC vs S-Corp: How They Compare

Both entities require state filing and are not associated with their proprietors on a legal plane.

To be more specific, an LLC stands in-between unregistered entities and corporations combining the features of both structures. As such, it offers secure protection to your individual funds and property against business commitments along with the ultimate flexibility in management and taxation.

An S-Corp is a more complex structure, with more regulatory rules and restrictions to observe. One thing you should clearly understand is that it’s not an entity type but rather a tax status available for LLCs and corporations alike. In other words, you can’t register an S-Corp from scratch. First, you should file an LLC (you can contact any of the best online llc service) or start a C-Corporation and then, gain an S-Corp status for it from the IRS.

S-Corp and LLC Similarities

These two types of legal entity structures have many features in common, including a few key benefits for shipping or cargo transportations companies:

  • Flexible taxes: LLCs and S-Corps are disregarded entities for tax purposes which means that they are free from paying income taxes at a business level. Enterprise revenues and losses are transferred to tax reports of its proprietors and are payable at a personal level, thus, cutting down the risk of double taxation;
  • Protective corporate veil: What gives incorporated entities an edge over unregistered ones is the liability screen they provide to the enterprise owners. As a separate entity, your company will be in charge of any business-related debts, sues, lawsuits, and financial problems. You’ll have no personal responsibility for that and your own assets can’t be seized to settle the enterprise liabilities. To further enhance this liability veil, take care of splitting your own and company funds by opening a dedicated checking account for your venture;
  • Simple filing rules: Similar to other disregarded entities, LLCs and S-Corporations enjoy very simple compliance rules. They just need to file state and tax reports once a year;
  • More open to fundraising: Business loans, operational credit lines, factoring programs, and other additional financing resources will be all at your disposal. Besides, engaging partners won’t be a problem as well since legal entities look more reliable for investors and creditors;
  • Strong market image: Named after their owners, unregistered entities usually lack the credibility and brand power of companies. Operating under the structure of a separate entity, your enterprise will get more trust and appreciation from customers, vendors, and suppliers. Your company will have more chances to build a professional image and gain a solid reputation on the market.

S-Corp and LLC Differences

As similar as they might seem, LLCs and S-Corps are not the same. They have quite a number of differences in the main aspects that clearly sets them apart:

  • Membership structure: LLCs are open to an unlimited number of members and accept individuals and legal entities from the US and from abroad as their co-owners. S-Corps, on the other hand, are restricted by only 100 stockholders. Non-US residents, corporations, trusts, banks, and other legal persons are not allowed. Besides, the issue of the shares is limited by a single class of stock;
  • Management system: LLCs are either owner-managed or manager-managed entities, with no bureaucracy in the management structure. By way of contrast, S-Corps have a strict and complex management hierarchy, and stockholders don’t operate the business on a daily basis;
  • Formalities to observe: Unlike LLCs, S-Corps have multiple formalities they need to stick to. Stock issue and regular stakeholder and managing board meetings are to name a few;
  • Profit distribution: Corporate profits and losses are allocated proportionally to the stakeholders’ interests in the company’s equity. Meanwhile, LLC owners can divide the profits as they want irrespective of their equity shares;
  • Tax nuances: LLC members are self-employed persons, so their incomes are subject to self-employment levies accordingly. S-Corp owners could be employed in the company, which brings certain tax benefits. You’ll be free from self-employment and payroll taxes and will be able to reduce taxable income and dividend charges.

Is an LLC Good for a Shipping Company?

An LLC framework has a lot to offer to many types of businesses including logistic companies. LLCs allow you to start small and grow big without changing the company structure. You’ll get a chance to separate your own and your enterprise assets from the very beginning and obtain a much-sought liability shield without saddling yourself with too many formalities and statutory restrictions.

Is an S-Corp Good for a Cargo Transportation Company?

An S Corporation structure is a more appropriate choice for complex and bigger ventures than for smaller private companies. If you have ambitious plans, seek quick venture growth, and still want beneficial tax opportunities, an S-Corp is worth your attention. You’ll be able to easily engage side investors by issuing and selling stock, and taxation options offer a number of benefits to corporate owners.

Take Professional Advice

Whatever your intuition tells you, getting expert advice will never go amiss. There is a whole bunch of nuances and details that are beyond your radar, and a competent advisor will reveal them to you through the lens of your own company perspectives.

Summary

LLCs and Subchapter S Corporations have a lot in common as well as they have their own pluses and minuses. If you hesitate about which is a better option for your shipping firm, you can’t go wrong by starting it as an LLC and switching to an S-Corp if you outgrow the LLC capabilities.

The French Foreign Ministry says it has completely reconsidered its relations with Australia after the international submarine scandal. Paris even returned its ambassador to Canberra, but with two assignments.

This statement was made by Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian at a parliamentary hearing.

The French ambassador will return to Canberra with two missions – to help redefine the terms of our relationship with Australia in the future and to protect our interests,
– Le Drian said.

Paris has taken into account the submarine situation and stressed that this will not affect its determination to be present in the Pacific.
Specific return date unknown

The French government hopes that in time it will be possible to compensate for the damage caused by the cancellation of the agreement.
Note! It is still unknown when the French ambassador will return to Australia, because the head of the Foreign Ministry has not named a specific date.

The main thing about the massive submarine scandal

  • The US, Australia and Britain have announced the creation of a new defense alliance, AUKUS.
  • The purpose of the creation is cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
  • Thus Australia will get 8 submarines.
  • Canberra decided to unilaterally terminate the contract with Paris.
  • According to this agreement, France was to build 12 submarines. The contract was worth 56 billion euros.
  • Because of this, France recalled the ambassadors from Australia and the United States.

A Turkish tanker crashed near Istanbul and blocked the Bosphorus Strait. Therefore, the movement of ships and boats was suspended.

The cause of the accident was the fall of the anchor. Therefore, the tanker stopped.

The USICHEM tanker, which was loaded with sunflower oil, headed south on the Bosporus Strait. However, for reasons not yet known, the anchor dropped out of the ship while it was in motion.

Specialists are working on resuming movement in the Strait.

In the near future an unmanned boat with an electric motor will be able to carry passengers or deliver goods along Amsterdam’s canals. There is also a modification that will collect household waste.

The vehicle is called Roboat. The project was developed by Amsterdam’s Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Robolotka will help the city solve the transportation problem: traffic jams are constantly created in the narrow streets of the city, and the situation is complicated by the development of e-commerce and delivery.

They have been working on the project for four years, and only recently two full-size boats have been unveiled. One of the first practical applications of Roboat will be garbage collection. Normally, this task is solved by using trucks, but large machines are inconvenient to use in the narrow streets of Amsterdam.
The floating works standing by the shore will be able to be used as garbage containers, which will return independently to the base as they are filled. The city administration supported the idea – the pilot project will start at the beginning of next year.

Technical features of the Roboat

  • Roboat will be equipped with a 12 kWh Murata battery, which will provide 8 hours of autonomous work with a voltage of 48 V. If necessary, the battery capacity can be doubled.
  • The boat is built in an aluminum hull with dimensions of 2×4 meters and a weight of 1,200 kilograms. Below the waterline, the vehicle is something of an inverted drone: the bow and stern propellers plus two thrusters allow the boat to maneuver easily and anchor more accurately than a human.
  • Navigation is provided by a forward-mounted lidar, several cameras and a GPS module. Permission to carry passengers has not yet been obtained, but it is planned for the future.

According to the developers, Roboat will be used for different purposes. The boat can become a floating stage, a temporary bridge or a barge, because it is possible to connect boats with each other. And in the maritime version, several of these machines could, for example, cordon off an oil slick after a spill to contain it.

During the 100 years of its existence Maersk managed to fight in the war, master oil production and make a record $5.2 billion profit. And it all started with a used cargo steamer.

The history of one of the largest cargo carriers started in 1886, when a retired distant sea captain Peter Maersk-Meller bought a second hand cargo steamboat with his savings. In 1904 he stopped taking freight and together with his son established a shipping company. From the first days “Swedenborg Steamship Company” was managed by the son of the captain Arnold Peter Maersk-Meller, in honor of whom eight years later the company received its new name, under which it has been known for over 100 years.

In 1940, Denmark, without showing resistance, was occupied by the troops of Nazi Germany – King Christian X in the hope to save his people signed a humiliating and oppressive treaty with the occupiers. The Maersk-Mellers did not just disagree with the king’s policies. Not only did the family emigrate to the United States, but they took their entire fleet with them. Moreover, the Maersk-Mellers essentially entered the war on the side of the United States, putting their ships at the disposal of the American Navy. More than half of the company’s fleet was lost in the battles of World War II.

At the beginning of the 1950s Arnold Peter Maersk-Moersk-Moeller makes a decision, which at first is not less important for the company than the transfer to the side of the USA in the war: the company acquires the first tanker for oil transportation. This business allowed the shipowner to get closer to the world’s largest oil producers Shell and Texaco.

In 1962, a shipping company with good connections among the oil industry has received an exclusive concession for the exploration and production of oil and gas in the Danish sector of the North Sea until 2042. For the new business A.P. Moller-Maersk created a subsidiary, Maersk Oil, and it organized the DUC consortium together with Royal Dutch Shell and Texaco, which got 46% and 15% respectively in DUC.

Maersk Oil is actively involved in oil projects in Algeria, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Great Britain, Oman and Turkmenistan. The prospects of the business are brilliant: Denmark is now beginning exploration of oil fields on the Greenland shelf and the Faroe Islands. Forecast oil reserves only near the eastern coast of Greenland are estimated at more than 600 billion barrels. However, the core of the corporation has remained the core of shipping.

In the early 2000s A.P. Moller-Maersk Group acquired the American company Sea-Land, whose founder was the inventor of the sea containers that revolutionized cargo transportation. Since then, the Maersk Line division remains the largest “container” company in the world. And at the same time it is practically unavailable for takeover.

2014 was a record year for A.P. Moller-Maersk in terms of profit – it was $5.2 billion. It was the highest in its history, and the key to its success was concentration on core business and economy.

A tanker with a 10-meter whale clinging to its bow was docked at Mizushima Harbor in Kurashiki, Japan. Unfortunately, the animal was already dead when the ship arrived in port.

The incident is reported by the newspaper with references to local news sites. The tanker arrived at the Japanese port of Muzishima through the Pacific Ocean.

Eyewitnesses were amazed at the sight of the ship entering the harbor in the town of Kurashiki. For on its bow was a giant whale, alas, already dead.

The crew assured that no one suspected that the ship had struck the whale.

A spokesman for the Coast Guard Department, Mizushima, noted that they had never seen anything like it. So measures to prevent such an incident from happening again will be reviewed.

“I’ve been fishing here for decades, but this is the first time I’ve seen a whale,” a local fisherman added.

What is known about the dead animal

  • The species of whale has not yet been confirmed. However, the Cetacean Research Institute suggested it was the fin whale, recognized as a vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
  • It is the second longest cetacean species on Earth after the blue whale. The blue whale is 27.3 meters long and weighs up to 74 tons.

Hydrogen solutions are increasingly being introduced in order to reduce CO2 emissions. Thus, Sweden is developing the world’s first high-speed carbon-free catamaran Beluga24.

The project is the result of a partnership between the Swedish companies Green City Ferries AB, Echandia, New Zealand’s Teknicraft and Italy’s Studio Sculli.

About the ship

  • Built from carbon fiber by Green City Ferries;
  • Equipped with an integrated system with battery and Echandia fuel cell propulsion for greater energy efficiency;
  • Designed for 150 passengers;
  • Scheduled to begin delivery in 2022.

Other similar developments include the electric ship Candela (Sweden), the hydrogen steamer Sea Change (USA) and the ship MF Hydra (Norway).
