You’re Invited! (Please Say Aye
Aye!)
In January 2006
the Children’s Maritime Foundation Board of Directors launched a new support organization, the
Officers Club to provide
scholarships, new program initiatives, and operating support for the Foundation. The goal of the
Officers Club is to make it
possible for children in grades 3-12 to participate in a program on board the tallship American Pride,
even if they do not have the fee to cover their registration.
Currently CMF
charges only about 50% of the actual cost of a program. Even at that discounted rate, many
children and/or their schools simply cannot afford to take advantage of what can be a life-altering experience for
a child.
Did you know that many of the children who
sail with us live within a 20 mile radius of the ocean, but have never even SEEN it? That’s just the
beginning of why our programs are so important. What better way to learn about physics than working with
levers and pulleys to raise the sails? Where else could you learn about basic navigation – and actually DO
it? How about understanding the environmental issues of the ocean by analyzing water samples from the port in
Long Beach and comparing them with samples between Long Beach and Catalina? And what about the opportunity to
LIVE history through various programs presented by costumed crew members who use language and historically accurate
information to re-create the world of sea-going passengers of the 1850’s? Learning by doing
lasts a lifetime!
Not only will you make a difference in the
life of a young person who otherwise could not afford to participate, you personally will enjoy the special rewards
available through the Officers
Club. The Officers
Club offers many levels of participation. Being a member not only provides a
scholarship for a student, but also provides you with the satisfaction that you have helped a child learn and
succeed in a living environment.
NO CHILD
FAILS on the American Pride!
The Children's Maritime
Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and we depend on the generosity of our Donors who provide support
to our annual operating costs. Please join our Officers Club with a donation.
There are endless possibilities from which to choose how you can contribute to the Children's Maritime Foundation
in a meaningful way!
THE
CHILDREN'S MARITIME FOUNDATION WISHES TO RECOGNIZE THESE GENEROUS DONORS. DONORS SUCH AS THESE HELP TO MAKE
